7-day Prayer & Fasting

At the beginning of every year, River of Life Fellowship sets aside a time to reset, refocus, and commit to seeking the Lord. We hope to achieve these by devoting a time of prayer, fasting and family devotion.

Be of good courage and join us in a 7-day prayer journey. Let's usher in what God has planned for us in 2021.

Fasting starts on January 8, 2021 (Friday) and ends on January 14, 2021 (Thursday)

Fasting is not a way to force God’s hand to move on your behalf or a way to demonstrate to Him that you are worthy of His blessing. He has promised to provide us with all of our needs according to the richness of Christ Jesus, our Lord. We urge you to take part in this 7-day season of prayer, fasting, and family devotion to experience what God has in store for you and your families in a powerful way.

You can participate by fasting from specific foods, activities, or anything that distracts you from God’s presence on a daily basis. We have provided a practical devotional guideline to help you navigate through this journey. We pray that you will experience the extraordinary and powerful presence of God. Delight yourself unto the Lord and He promised to give you the desires of your heart.  We declare God’s continued blessing and favor upon you as you seek Him!

why fast?–

Fasting says to God, “Lord I value and honor you more than food; I desire to draw nearer and be more intimate with you. I will purpose in my heart to seek you diligently.” Fasting is our declaration that we are genuinely giving up what commonly occupy us to give God our full affection and attention He deserves. We empty ourselves before God so He can fill us with His dreams, visions, and purposes. We dedicate this time so He can do what only He can do in our lives.

As we begin to fast, believe in your heart by faith that this is the time of knowing Him more intimately, miracles, breakthroughs and answered prayers for you, your family, and friends. Our God is an amazing GOD.

here’s how we can prepare–

1. Prayerfully seek God as to what type of fasting you can do. God knows and honors your desire to honor Him as you fast. Your type of fasting may require you to give up something precious to you in exchange of something greater and better from God. Expect and allow an amazing God to guide and direct you as you diligently seek His heart and instructions. He will surely captivate hearts when we give him the opportunity.

2. Commit to a time of daily personal prayers, devotion, worship and bible reading (refer to your daily bible reading plan). Also, establish a time where you as a family can discuss the scripture throughout this season of fasting.

3. If you are a preteen, youth, have special needs and medical conditions, or new to fasting you might need to modify your fast and commit to:

  • Restricting intake of coffee, chocolates, candies, soda & chips.

  • No TV/entertainments/internet or computer games and Facebook (social media)

  • Skip a meal or two everyday

  • Refraining from saying or thinking negative things throughout the fasting. Be guided by the Holy Spirit.

  • Follow Daniel’s fast where you commit to eating fruits, fruit juices, and vegetables only.

4. Invest time in prayer. Seek God and expect for God to speak as you diligently seek Him in your Quiet Time. Agree with what the Holy Spirit impresses in our hearts to decree and declare as we pray. There is power in agreement. Together we make known to God our petitions with thanksgiving.

5. Expect results. Let’s expect a heightened awareness of His presence. The Lord will give us fresh spiritual insights, strength, increased faith, and confidence in HIM. Expect breakthroughs and revelations. Allow Him to enlarge our capacity to receive and believe for more. Let us be intentional and purpose in our hearts to welcome and embrace His thoughts and ways. The more we know Him, the more we can truly trust HIM.

6. We urge all the heads of the family to lead their families and set a time daily to do family devotion using the devotional guidelines provided.

devotional guidelines–

You have a few days before you actually start the fasting. Today, be encouraged and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and revelations on how to plan and actively take part in this Corporate Fast. Believe that as you purpose in your heart to inquire and wait for Him, He will direct and instruct you on the specifics of your fast as you seek Him in your quiet time.
